Educational Community Scholarship

The Winding Roads Health Consortium has an interest in assisting individuals looking to further their education, preferably in the health professions field, but not a requirement. Any continuation of an individuals education will bring benefit to the communities within our Consortium.  To this end, we offer annual educational scholarships in the amount of $1500.00, one for each county in the Consortium. The scholarship in Roane County is sponsored by WRHC, entitled "The Annie McIntosh educational Scholarship". In Jackson County, the scholarship is entitled "The Connie Somerville Educational Scholarship".

Jackson County native Misty Hamric receives her scholarship check from board chair Mark Caldon. Misty is a Marshall University Nursing Student.

Mini Grants

WRHC makes available to individuals and organizations an opportunity to further health education and wellness activities through the intervention and participation of community volunteers. The WRHC Board looks at these projects as an instrument for promoting healthful lifestyles. Awards are limited to a maximum of $500.00 per application. Over the past four years, we have awarded over $5,000.00 towards programs for health promotion or a wellness related activity.
Examples of funded projects include:

  • Parents for a Safe Prom - Roane County - to provide safe atmosphere on Prom night
  • Staats Pharmacy - Roane County - purchase of Food Pyramid for Diabetes Education
  • Jackson County Community Health Clinic - start-up funding
  • Park's Powerlifters - Jackson County - weight lifting equipment for group use
