STUDENT HOUSING POLICY #1-97-01
The
Winding Roads Health Consortium will assure that student housing
will be available which is adequate and meets fire and life safety
codes and public health standards.
Health
professions students from West Virginia University, Marshall University,
and the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine will be provided
with first preference for the free housing provided through the
West Virginia Rural Health Education Partnerships. Health professions
students form other schools will be housed on an as scheduled
and as available basis. These students are not guaranteed free
housing.
Housing
is provided on a non-discriminatory basis. Where possible same
gender housing will be provided, although students of both genders
may be placed in the same housing. If provided housing is not
suitable for a particular student, the consortium will assist
the student in finding other arrangements, at the students expense.

The Learning
Resource Center
 |
The
Learning Resource Center is a free standing facility with
24-hour access. It contains the IDE conference room, computer
room, site coordinator and administrative assistant offices.
There are three PCs and a laptop computer. Programming available
is MU RuralNet, WV Consult, Grateful Med, Medline/CINHAL/PsychLit,
E-Mail, Internet Word Processing, Spreadsheets, and some games
for relaxation. Book references are available for all represented
disciplines but must remain in the LRC. |
| The
community is very supportive of the WVRHEP. The Center has
an excellent working relationship with the general medical
community. Local businesses and organizations have been supportive
in their time, with donations and volunteerism whether directly
for WVRHEP, PATCH or Family Health Care. |

To
support the students rural based educational curriculum, the Learning
Resource Centers provide the traditional in-house library references
(texts & manuals) and access to the Internet System. This
electronic process enables them to access not only campus based
materials but numerous other systems, each having e-mail, news,
and research capabilities.
The
LRC is being utilized by various community groups and its health
related resources is being made available to the larger medical
community and others as finances and time allow. Roane General
Hospital is a partner in the MDTV system.
