Tar Wars Presentation - Evans Elementary
Frances and Shawn provided the 5th graders at Evans Elementary
with the Tar Wars Program. This program educates the students
to associate tobacco use with the dangers to a person’s
health. Shawn and Frances provided a prop with a healthy
lung and a lung that has used tobacco. It compares lung
capacity between a lung that has not used tobacco products
and a lung that has been exposed to tobacco. It is important
to reduce the number of youth that use tobacco products
to ensure a healthier lifestyle.

Great American Smoke Out - Ripley
The Great American Smokeout has helped to spotlight the
dangers of tobacco use and the challenges of quitting, but
more importantly, it has set the stage for the cultural
revolution in tobacco that has occurred over this period.
An estimated 47 million adults in the United States still
smoke. Approximately half of them will die prematurely from
smoking. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death
for men and women. More than 80 percent of lung cancers
are believed to result from smoking. Frances and Shawn provided
the community with a display board and handouts to encouraged
participants to sign the "Smoke Free Home Pledges".
