Camden-on-Gauley
is located in south central West Virginia with easy access to
US Highway 19. The area climate is moderate. January has an average
temperature of 30° while July averages 72° with an annual
precipitation of 45.7 inches and a mean annual snowfall of 57
Inches (give or take a few )
Outdoor
activities are unlimited. Summersville Lake, a 30-minute drive,
provides a major source of recreation throughout much of the year.
It is used for boating, water skiing, scuba diving, and fishing
(walleye, blue gill, crappie, bass (large and small) and trout).
Other major lakes in the area are: Big Ditch, Summit, Sutton,
Burnsville, and Stonewall Jackson. The New River is within 45
minutes and provides some of the best white water rafting in the
country. The fall raft season on the Upper Gauley is world-renowned.
Hunting is excellent during the state's regulated seasons for
bear, deer, turkey, and a variety of small game. Spectacular fly
fishing in the Cherry River (North and South Forks), Williams,
Elk, and Back Fork of the Elk call to fisherman from all over
the world. Not withstanding is the remote and famed backcountry
of the Cranberry River. Cross-country skiers and mountain bikers
have access to miles and miles of trails. The Monongahela National
Forest is our backyard.
There
is one high school and four elementary schools in Webster County
and two high schools, two middle schools and eleven elementary
schools in Nicholas County. A Vocational-Technical center and
New River Community and Technical College are located within 30
minutes from the Camden-on-Gauley Medical Center.
