Name of project: Coronary Artery Risk Detection In Appalachian Communities (CARDIAC Project)
Hypothesis or Research question being addressed: Assessing the prevalence of dyslipidemia and other cardiovascular risk factors in 5th grade children and their parents in West Virginia.

Criteria for entry into the project: Standard rural rotation approval. Request to participate in CARDIAC Project. Participate in IDS session and/or onsite training
Role of RHEP students: To provide assistance with CARDIAC Project screening process that could include registration of 5th graders, measurement of height, weight and blood pressure. In select counties possible fingerstick measurement of cholesterol.
Discipline of students being recruited to participate: Any healthcare discipline student participating in rural rotations
