Housing (Oak Hill)

Housing for up to four students is available at a rented house in Oak Hill. The house has two bedrooms (each room could fit two comfortably), one bathroom, kitchen, and a large living room/study area. It is co-ed. The house is furnished, including a television, VCR, a microwave, a coffee pot, dishes, pots and pans, and a telephone. Basic utilities are provided. Long distance phone calls must be made using a calling card or by calling collect. Students should bring bed linens for a twin bed, toiletries, alarm clock, and money to do laundry. A $20.00 deposit is required. This is returned at the end of the rotation after inspection of the house and return of the house key.

Additional housing can be arranged with community members, as needed, close to the student's rotation site.

 

Directions to Student House:
From the North:
From Interstate 79 South, take Rt. 19 South to Oak Hill.
Take Main Street exit (after Summerlee and Oyler exits).
Turn left off the exit ramp.
After crossing the bridge, turn left again, as if to take the entrance
ramp back onto Rt. 19 North.
At the top of the entrance ramp, turn right onto Woodlawn Avenue.
114 Woodlawn Avenue is the second house on the right (Park in front of
the house or on the right side of the street on the cement patch on
the lawn across the street from the house).


From the South:
From Interstate 64/77, take Rt. 19 North to Oak Hill.
Take the Main Street, Oak Hill exit.
At the top of the ramp, go straight across Main Street, as if to take
the entrance ramp back onto Rt. 19 North.
At the top of the entrance ramp, turn right onto Woodlawn Avenue.

The Learning Resource Center

The LRC offers students and faculty computer access that increases research and communication capabilities. Computers are equipped with Windows 95. Programs for word processing, Internet access, and to aggregate and analyze epidemiological data are available. The R&B staff is available to assist both students and faculty in developing computer skills, in completing literature searches and other research activities. The LRC also offers printed resource materials, including health care and statistical textbooks, Appalachian culture books, informational books for local, state and national health care, as well as community and human resources directories. The materials in the LRC library are for use at the LRC. The LRC is open M-F 8:00am to 5:00pm but special arrangements for evening or weekend access can be made by contacting the R&B Coordinator. There are also satellite LRC's at New River Family Healy Center in Scarbro, North Family Health Center in Lookout, and Gulf Family Practice in Sophia. Satellites offer computer access and have limited access to printed resource materials. Materials available must be used on-site. Contact the appreciate site for available hours.
