Three major state parks are located near Grafton, West
Virginia:
Tygart
Lake State Park is excellent for boating, fishing, swimming, and all other
water sports. Picnic facilities, camping, hiking trails, game courts and a
nearby golf course add to the beauty of this park, referred to by the locals as
“Grafton Dam.” Tours of the dam, built in 1936, are available.
Valley Falls State Park is a 1,145-acrea, secluded park just outside of Fairmont, in Marion County. It is admired for its spectacular series of cataracts and excellent picnic facilities.
Pricketts Fort State Park, also near Fairmont, is a step back in time. The original fort has been reconstructed and serves as a living history site where interpreters re-create eighteenth-century frontier life.
