Housing and Student Activities

Grafton City Hospital

The Rural Health Education Partnerships at Grafton City Hospital maintains a house for students who are performing rotations in Taylor, Marion, Preston and Harrison Counties. The house is located in Grafton.

We provide bed linens, pillows, blankets, towels, dishes, pots, pans, silverware, a microwave oven, stove, coffee pot, refrigerator, cable television, and telephone. Students are responsible for all long distance phone charges. The house will accommodate four people comfortably and is located within walking distance of banks, laundromats, and grocery stores. A single car garage is also provided. Depending on the number of students utilizing the RHEP house, arrangements may be available for pets (dogs or cats only, please.)

During rural rotations, students are required to take part in activities which are designed to complement the clinical portion of their learning experience with problem-based instruction, community service projects, and community-based research. Interdisciplinary (IDS) sessions take place every Friday at Grafton City Hospital from 11:30am-2:00pm. These sessions bring students from various disciplines together with health care professionals to examine case studies. Community service projects are opportunities for students to “give back” to the community in which they are rotating. These projects can range from health screenings to presentations on any health-related topic to various community groups such as senior citizens. The site coordinator arranges these, but students are encouraged to develop their own projects. Research activities also are community based. Students may take part in formal or informal surveys, or create their own projects to learn more about the health care concerns of the community.
