Braxton
County, located in the geographic center of the state, is rich with
beautiful, unspoiled countryside and miles of creeks, lakes, and
rivers. There are two dams in Braxton County: Burnsville and Sutton.
These lakes have much to offer for leisure time or sporting. There
are plenty of bass, bluegill, muskie, trout, walleye, and catfish
for the fisherman, as well as camping, boating, backpacking and
water skiing. Whitewater rafting, national forests, and snow skiing
are just a scenic drive away.
Our community has
a movie theater, bowling alley, riding stables, roller skating
rink, the Flatwoods Outlet Mall, and a variety of dining choices.
Braxton County is home to the West Virginia Hillbilly Players,
a community theatre group, whose performances are held at the
Landmark Studio for the Arts, a converted Victorian-era church.
For the sports enthusiast, Braxton County High School and Middle
School offer seasonal sporting events. There are churches of various
denominations in our community.
