BASIC OBJECTIVES OF AN IDS SESSION
Cooperative interdisciplinary training to assist in the
development and evaluation of core competencies of professional behaviors as
they deal with other health care disciplines
- Core
content specific learning to each discipline is expected but the
development of team related learning objectives are essential to health
professional students’ learning
- Integrate
information across the various health disciplines regarding a specific
learning issue
- Understand
and develop their knowledge of the various disciplines’ approach to a
specific patient care issue
- Better
acquire, retain and use clinical knowledge
- Develop
their own sense of “self-directed learning skills” and “learning issues”
- Improve
their communication and interpersonal skills
- Learn
to work as a team to solve health
care problems in various social, economic and cultural areas
- Develop
an appreciation of what it takes to live and practice a health care career
in rural West Virginia
