Get acquainted
teasers to loosen up a small group
Introductions:
1. Say your name
with a descriptive adjective using the same first letter, and a brief story why
you chose that adjective to describe yourself.
Kind Kim;
Rambunctious Rosie; Perky Patty; Mellow Mark
2. Distribute
randomly a list of questions for students to reflect on briefly and answer
briefly as they go around and say their name.
(1) What is the least likely profession you would do and why?
(2) If you could live in one other
country, where would it be?
(3) If you received 2 free air-fare tickets. Where do you go in the US?
(4) What animal would you be and why?
(5) What entertainer or sports figure would you be and why?
(6) What physical skill do you wish you had learned as a kid?
(7) What was the most newsworthy media event of your lifetime
(8) If you could do anything with a gift of $10,000, what would it be?
3. Toilet paper game
– Those gathered around the table pass around a roll of toilet paper. The
instructions are “take as much as you need”. Period. If someone asks why, just
say it again. Typically, the guys in the group will usually take many sheets (I
had one guy who took 25!), the girls will usually take 3-4 sheets and
occasionally there will be one or two folks that refuse.
Then, everyone is asked to share a
point of information that is unknown about themselves for every sheet they
took. Since men are typically more reluctant to share stories, this usually
forces more of them to share.
4. As each person
introduces themselves, they should say where their name came from…
Eg. Rosie was my mom’s name, so I was named after her
Dawn
was named so because she was born in the morning
Philip
was named after his mom’s favorite uncle etc.
