STATEMENT OF POLICY:

The following points are to clarify the criteria for a field professor for the EWVRHEC.

  • Field professors may be paid independent contractors or volunteers of the EWVRHEC.
  • Field professors must have a faculty appointment with a West Virginia University System or state/private college system school and follow the WVRHEP Position Description of Duties and Qualifications for their discipline.
  • Field professors will facilitate the interdisciplinary sessions on a rotating basis.
  • Field professors may be paid an hourly wage as stated in their field professor agreement for preparing and facilitating an interdisciplinary session.
  • Field professors may be reimbursed for preparation time for an interdisciplinary session on a three to one ratio. Three hours preparation time for a one hour interdisciplinary session. A field professor may be paid preparation time in excess of this ratio only if approved by the Site Coordinator in advance.
  • Up to two field professors may be reimbursed to attend an interdisciplinarysession. Only the one field professor presenting the session may be reimbursed for preparation time.
  • Field professors will complete student evaluation forms for interdisciplinary sessions.
  • Field professors may participate and/or supervise student community-based research projects or community service projects.
  • Field professors may participate in local and WVRHEP faculty developmentactivities.
  • Field professors will not be reimbursed for personal time except in the specific cases outlined in the attached Field Faculty Guidelines for Reimbursement.
  • Field professors may attend consortium meetings.

Field Faculty Guidelines for Reimbursement

1. Field Professors will be reimbursed an hourly rate as stated in their Field Professor Agreement for the time facilitating and preparing for an interdisciplinary session (IDS). Preparation time is a maximum of a three to one ratio (a maximum of three hours preparation for a one hour IDS).

2. Field Professors will be reimbursed an hourly rate as stated in their Field Professor Agreement for time attending a local field professor meeting. These meetings will be held on an as-needed basis and should be less than two hours in length.

3. Field Professors and preceptors will not be reimbursed for time attending a consortium Board of Directors meeting or general membership meeting unless requested to attend by the Board of Directors.

4. Field Professors and preceptors will not be reimbursed for time attending local faculty development activities. In cases where the field professor or preceptor is the presenter of the faculty development session, they may submit a request for reimbursement in advance to the Executive Committee or Board of Directors.

5. Field Professors and preceptors will not be reimbursed for their time attending the WVRHEP Legislative Day and Dinner. If a field professor or preceptor attend this event, expenses will be reimbursed.

6. Field Professors and preceptors will not be reimbursed for time attending the WVRHEP committee meetings unless requested to attend by the consortium Board of Directors. If a field professor or preceptor attend a committee meeting, expenses will be reimbursed.

7. Field Professors and preceptors will not be reimbursed for time attending WVRHEP Faculty Development Day. If a field professor or preceptor attend this event, expenses will be reimbursed.

8. The designated On-Site Director of Clinical Education will be paid an hourly rate as stated in their Field Professor Agreement up to a maximum of $500 per month. A time sheet must be submitted each month indicating the duties and time associated with activities for this position. No reimbursement will be made if there are no activities submitted for the month.

9. Any other requests for reimbursement must be approved in advance by the consortium Executive Committee or the Board of Directors. The consortium will not reimburse for activities that have not been approved.
