The
Cabwaylingo Consortium is located in the southwest corner of West
Virginia. There are two Army Corps of Engineer lakes within a
30-45 minute drive of all sites. The lakes provide recreational
activities including: swimming, boating, camping, fishing and
hunting. Huntington, and Marshall University, are a 30-60 minute
drive from all sites. Charleston is 1-1.5 hours away. The leading
county industries and chief products include coal, natural gas,
lumber, cement and concrete, and farming.
The
major health problems in these three counties include cardiovascular
disease, cancer, C.O.P.D., sedentary lifestyle, and cerebrovascular

Twenty-eight
percent of Cabell County's adult residents have less than a high
school education, compared to 34 percent for West Virginia as
a whole. The nineteen percent of the population living at poverty
level or below, is lower than the 19.7 percent state rate, and
the unemployment rate of 5.2 percent is lower than the 7.2 percent

In
Lincoln County, 50.9 percent of the adult population has less
than a high school education; 33.8 percent of residents live at
poverty level, and the unemployment rate is 10.9 percent.
Thirty
seven percent of Wayne County adults have not graduated from high
school. Twenty-two percent of residents live at poverty level
or below. The unemployment rate is 7.1 percent. (U.S. Census,
