Review of Next Steps from September Meeting

Office of Rural Health Report

Legislative Interim Report – April stated that the report went very well.  The committee accepted the report and recommended it be sent to the Finance Committee for further review.  The auditor suggested WVRHEP follow-up with the Finance Committee following the November 7 elections.  The group discussed the article on lack of physicians in the Charleston Gazette and Dr. Weston’s response.  April will forward the Site Coordinators a list of the Legislative committees and legislators that serve on the committees that WVRHEP will need to contact this year.

Faculty Development Day – April reported that the conference was well-received this year.  The Faculty Development Committee is compiling the evaluations and feedback from the conference.  The conference dates for 2001 have tentatively been set for September 7 and 8 at Flatwoods.

Service Learning Conference – April reported that a Service Learning Conference will be held in Morgantown on December 1.  SCs will be receiving more information regarding this conference in the mail.  The conference is part of a grant.  The grant also includes training two individuals for service learning.  Dr. Dan Brody and Dr. Rosemarie Cannarella will be participating in a 10-day service learning training this year.  The information they gain from this training will be incorporated into next year’s Faculty Development Day.

TRACKER – Kelly requested an update on the status of the changes to the TRACKER system.  Mike McCarthy has a list of the changes the WVRHEP program has recommended.  April will check with Mike on the status of the changes.

Legislative Subcommittee’s
April suggested the group begin preparation for the 2001 Legislative health fair.  The WVRHEP Legislative Subcommittee formed this year recommended the same format be used at the Capitol.  The Subcommittee recommended the program consider having food as part of the event.  April also suggested spreading the health fair out to have some of the activities on the Senate side of the rotunda.  Site Coordinators were divided up into the following committees:
