Vision Workgroup Recommendations
The committee discussed the possibility of linking Healthy People 2010 Objectives to activities students are doing in consortia.  April said this is something that was discussed with Mike McCarthy at a recent information technology meeting and that Mike indicates can be done by developing a "drop down" menu in TRACKER that lists the main 2010 objectives.  Jennifer Weiss could come into a site coordinator meeting and do a training for them.  April will check w/ Mike McCarthy about when the "drop down" menu of 2010 flagship objectives might be available and report this at the next meeting.  The ability to have community service projects in RHEP directly linked to  2010 objectives would help with receiving grant funding and programs as well as legislative information.  This committee could serve as a support for these mechanisms.
A suggestion was made that the committee could receive information and track how consortia are doing in implementing 2010 objectives.
Jacquelynn said that the site coordinators need to have the ability to choose more than one activity for a community service.
Patti suggested that some of the committee members attend the 2010 training as well.  From the schools perspective, the role of the school representative would be to prepare students going out to be ready to do projects and be familiar with HP2010.  Suggest making this a focus at future faculty development conferences.  Serving field faculty in educating them about 2010 and how to track etc.  Dr. Bors will suggest to the faculty development committee and schools   Suggestion to add a 2010 piece to the RHEP site coordinator slide show.  Jacquelynn will discuss this suggestion with the site coordinator committee working on the slide show.

Drew Dunlap, Graduate Social Work student from WVU indicated that one of his projects would be to work with Dr. Neal and the CARDIAC project to link this to 2010 objectives, but to also develop a template for other community service projects and developing that link.

Jacquelynn mentioned that the CCPH and faculty development conference have been focusing more on service learning.  There was some discussion about having 2-3 objectives for community service overall for WVRHEP as well as 2-3 for IDS so that no matter what is covered content-wise, there are 2-3 items the student should expect to get from these.  Jacquelynn felt those would be good to come from this committee and then share with site coordinators, boards and faculty.
There was a suggestion to go through the vision recommendations and think about broad goals we would like to develop for discussion at the next meeting.
Suggestion to have the HP2010 training take place before the pull-downs and have Mike do a demo of how it might work etc. to get feedback.
Suggestion that site coordinators find out about the needs assessments done in their health department in determining 2010 focuses in their area.

NEXT STEPS

1. April to check with Mike McCarthy about a timeline for the "drop-down" menu in the monthly reports that will allow site coordinators to link community service with HP2010 objectives.
2. Jacquelynn will talk with site coordinators about the possibility of having Jennifer Weiss do a HP2010 overview for site coordinators
3. April will check about the possibility of having Mike do a demonstration of how the HP2010 objectives menu will work in the monthly reports during the same time Jennifer presents.
4. Dr. Bors will contact the faculty development committee about the possibility of incorporating HP2010 into future faculty development trainings and will mention this to the schools committee as well
5. Jacquelynn will discuss the suggestion of adding a HP2010 piece to the RHEP slideshow with the sub-committee re-working the slide show presentation.
6. Committee members are to go through the Vision Recommendations document and think about the broad goals the committee would like to develop for IDS and community service for discussion at the next meeting.  This document can be found on the web at http://www.wvrhep.org/reports/
