The draft of the Community Outreach Manual for Health Profession Students has been disseminated to WVRHEP committees for comment and has also been posted in draft form on the web at www.wvrhep.org/comm_out.man.html After changes, the manual was ready for approval by the committee. Currently, the manual refers to Healthy People 2000 Goals and Objectives, but will be changed to reflect the Healthy People 2010 Goals when they are released in April 2000. The committee discussed the manual's use throughout RHEP and decided it should be sent to school coordinators, site coordinators and posted on the web as an official document for WVRHEP health profession students doing community service/service learning projects. The committee decided to approve the manual and send it to the Advisory Panel for final approval (Pollard/McIntosh). b. April reported on the Faculty Development Lunch session which will be held on Saturday, September 25, 1999 at AB College in Phillipi. The session will be a panel discussion of programs that have impacted WVRHEP. Speakers include Cecil Pollard on the Diabetes project, Bill Neal on the CARDIAC project, Jill Rosenthal on RHAP leadership, Sarah Jane Gainor on the Geriatric Education Center and Ken Shannon, WVU Family Medicine on a statewide research project. IV. New Business a. Committee Structure April discussed structure of the community outreach/curriculum committee and suggested that three sub-committees should be formed in order to handle different pieces: Curriculum, Community Outreach, and Research. Each sub-committee should have a chair and April asked committee members to be thinking about who might best chair these sub-committees. Members of the committee could sign up for any sub-committees they were interested in and they could meet during the first hour (8:30-9:30AM) and the full committee would meet 9:30-10:30AM with reports from the sub-committees. Each of the sub-committees would need to define clearly the types of issues they would like to deal with as a committee. Cecil recommended Sarah Jane Gainor be contacted to be a member of the committee. Patti said that Arnie Hasson approached her about getting data on patients who go to rural primary care clinics and have internet access. He has been noticing WVNET having an overload of different people signing in. She mentioned a study in which WV came in second to last in internet access. Could this data be collected? The long-range purpose is to assess this in order to see if the internet could be used as a way of getting information to patients. Imogene said this could turn into a research project that could deal with more issues. Patti wanted to know if there was a listing of Primary Care centers in WV. Arnie plans to speak with the site coordinators about the potential of this project. The meeting was adjourned at 10AM.
