Site Coordinator FeedbackRegarding:  Healthy People 2010 Objectives
If we are going to ask consortia to track based on HP 2010, how is this going to impact consortia.
Need to have measurable goals.  There are public health people we can connect with.
Identify purpose:  why do we want sites to collect this data?  What is the purpose?
April said that this has been discussed in the IT Committee as adding this to the monthly report would be an addition to the TRACKER system.  There are multiple reasons why sites would want to collect this information.  The first would be this would be great information for communities to use to get grant funding.  The second is that this would be great information to provide to the legislature about how we are working to meet these objectives.  Patti said that CARDIAC for example is a springboard project for communities, even though what is being screened is not a HP2010 objective.
How can we connect so that we have a partnership with the correct people?
Jennifer Weiss was suggested as a potential presenter to do an overview of HP2010 goals.  Perhaps we could talk with her about who the best person is to make a connection with.  Patti said that Amy Adkins with the Office of Community & Rural Health Services.  Amy is the transitions coordinator.  Must participate in a needs assessment every so often.  Every county health department has a health promotion contact.  In most rural counties it is a rural health nurse.
PATCH groups or similar groups are a great resource in communities and work on HP2010.  Irene Tessaro's office is the contact for the Lay Helper's Network in the state.
Awareness of RHEP that we would like to incorporate level of awareness of HP2010.
Facilitate documentation of work via TRACKER and the monthly reports.
Pilot a more intensive step up with several consortia - and the committee could help these sites get their contacts and develop this as an outline for other consortia.
Ask site coordinator's to determine pilot sites to participate .  The goals of participating in the pilot project would be:
1.  Utilize a needs assessment
2.  Meet with their public health person
3.  Include all schools
4.  Incorporate HP2010 into IDS and community service
5.  Make it multidisciplinary
Possibility to link the Healthy People section in TRACKER
Site Coordinator's will mention this at the meeting tomorrow about who would be interested in participating in a pilot project to develop goals to enact HP 2010.  Set up a meeting with these people and Jennifer Weiss and Chuck Thayer.  The pilot group would participate in a more formalized interface.
Faculty development feedback - Dr. Cannarella did not have a chance to follow up about this.
Dr. Ferrari thinks this is a great idea and they plan to meet about this and talk about it at the school committee meeting.
Pilot group could develop learning objectives for IDS/community service.
AHEC Curriculum - they are developing their community curriculum.  Focus is on post-graduate students/ residents.  Dr. Bors said she would volunteer to be a contact to work w/ AHEC on this.
Kathleen will be talking with schools committee today about having HP2010 added to school orientations and other ways to introduce this at the schools.  Kathleen will develop some draft goals and bring them back to the next meeting.
Patti mentioned this as part of the service learning objectives for faculty development.
Ralph agreed to bring this up with the faculty development committee.  Feedback regarding a service learning goal.  A sentence or two with input from faculty development was suggested.
Kathleen to report on behalf of the committee at the March 2002 Advisory panel meeting.
The committee talked about the possibility of meeting in February at Charleston or having a phone conference to firm things up before March.
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
