LRC Committee Meeting

Attendees: Parr Thacker, Mark Allen, Kelly Blake, Robert Blake, Elizabeth Richmond, Nancy Johnson, Jennifer Allen, Helen Baker, Anna Reno

Call to order

The discussion of the meeting centered on the review of the activities of the LRC Committee so far and its direction in the future.  All were in agreement that the activities seemed to be more focused on communication technologies that were learning resources (i.e., computers to community members, development of online courses, “petting zoo” for field faculty day) but not necessarily tied to the Learning Resource Centers.  The discussion also gave insight to site coordinator concern that RHEP may be seen as just “in the computer business” and view site coordinators and support staff as technical support, drawing too much from their other duties.

The lack of guidance and standards for learning resources and LRC’s were also viewed as areas that needed attention, as well as the need for support and advocacy for those sites either limited by budget or other restrictions (lack of quality telecommunications infrastructure) to meet these minimum standards.  The development of a mission statement and preliminary goals and objectives followed the discussion.  Both were as follows:

The mission of the LRC Committee is to investigate, support, promote and advocate for those learning resources, with emphasis on communication technology, that enable the highest quality of educational experience for our students, field faculty and communities associated with the West Virginia Rural Health Education Partnership.
