Faculty Development Committee Meeting

Meeting Minutes

January 19, 2004

In Attendance:  Dan Brody, Rosemarie Cannarella, Imogene Foster, Ralph Utzman, Sara Jane Gainor, Parr Thacker, Kathryn Greenlief, Helen Baker, Rhonda Carpenter, April Vestal, Sandra Pope (via phone).

IDS Policy/Approval – This policy was approved at the November 2003 Advisory Panel meeting.  A copy of the revised policy was passed out to the committee and will be posted to the website once signatures are obtained

Survey of field faculty – Helen said that there were a couple issues with the survey.  It has only had approximately a 29% response rate in the past which may not be good enough for publication.  Parr suggested that he and Kathryn talk about this issue at the site coordinator meeting tomorrow to see if they have suggestions about how the survey can be distributed to get a better response.  The data is coded by consortium and discipline.  Helen asked what the committee would like to do to move the survey through the IRB process?  Susan Biser was suggested to help.  Henry Taylor had volunteered to help us work on clearer and better IRB approval.  This is something the evaluation committee has been discussing and will be working on.  Helen said she would clean up the survey with comments and forward these to Rosie and Imogene.  They will then try to deal with WVU’s IRB as opposed to WVSOM’s.  Helen went over the potential changes to the survey of field faculty/preceptors with the committee.  Lynne Sandy with AHEC sent some comments for incorporation and these were reviewed as well.

Facilitator training is scheduled for April 30 at Stonewall Resort.

Meeting to plan the IDS training is scheduled for March 12.  Rosie is unable to be at this meeting due to a scheduling conflict.  The committee agreed to move the meeting to March 26.  April will check about using Panera’s meeting room in Morgantown.  Meeting is scheduled from 10 AM to 4PM.
