Service-Learning Discussion – the committee discussed “service-learning.”  Discussion included the following:  That the Universities needed to be more involved in the community service aspect of the rural rotation and that the student should arrive with a project, not wait for the site to assign one.  This would be pre-approved by the University prior to the student leaving campus.

The committee reviewed the reports requested by the committee on local faculty development activities held in consortia. (Policy 1996-02).
Of the 17 consortia offices, five had held program and one consortium scheduled a program that was canceled due to lack of attendance.  13 consortia did not have a faculty development program in 2001.  The committee discussed ways to make it easier to offer programs.  This included providing speakers, looking at funding, requiring some guideline for RHEP preceptors in the line of having to have a certain amount of CME’s etc. in order to take students.

Rosie agreed to write a letter to the OSCD’s about the faculty development reports and information received.  There was discussion about who is responsible for making sure there is faculty development programs locally, the OSCD or site coordinator.  No recommendations were formally made by the committee.
Next meeting will be held via conference call on Friday, April 12, 2002 at 12:30 PM.
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
