WVRHEP Evaluation Committee

June 5, 2006

Members Present:  Lora Atkins, Kathleen Bors, Charissa Davis, Jodie Jackson (Chair), Sara Miller, Dalena Riggs

Others present:  Dan Brody, Sharon Giles, Ralph Utzman, April Vestal

Kathleen Bors introduced the new 4th year Charleston, medical school campus coordinator, Charissa Davis.

Jodie Jackson reported on the addition to Policy 98-02 of a new type of student rotation, “AHEC Special”:  Any higher education* institution student or medical resident participating in an AHEC IDT but not participating in a rural, clinical rotation (and who has not obtained a special variance from the Executive Director of WVRHEP for RHEP credit for a rotation in a restricted city). [NOTE:  these students must still be flagged as AHEC.]

Jodie explained that this rotation type will not be seen on the campus coordinator’s screen, only on the screens of site coordinators and AHEC directors.

Jodie reported on the status of the new data person being hired.  Applications are being screened by the Search Committee (Derrick Day, Chair; Mike McCarthy; and Ken Shannon, MD).  The Search Committee will make the recommendations of whom to interview.  Interviews should begin this month.

Discussion about the Levels policy ensued.  Kathleen Bors suggested that the Levels designations be reduced from the current three levels to two levels (i.e. Levels 2 and 3 would become Level 2).  All medical students participating in a Level II rotation would get the 2 for 1 credit.  Jodie reported that more detailed discussion was on the agenda of the School Committee today and that she had prepared detailed handouts for that committee.

Meeting adjourned.
