New Data Analyst/Program Assistant in the Office of Rural Health
Jodie introduced Sheryll Tennant who has taken Alex Lubman’s place
as the data analyst/program assistant in the WVU Office of Rural Health.
She will also be a member of the Evaluation Committee.
New Evaluation Committee member:
Teresa Holshuh from the MU School of Medicine has joined the Evaluation
Committee.
Medical Student Baseline Data Questionnaire
Jodie discussed a recent change to TRACKER: When a medicine campus
coordinator adds a new student and provides an email address for that student,
the coordinator will be asked whether to notify that medical student about
the Baseline Data Questionnaire and ask him/her to complete it at that
time. A response of "YES" will generate an email message to that student
requesting that s/he complete the baseline (a copy of the baseline cover
letter) and instructions for doing so. Please note that this early
notification will ONLY work if the email address for the student is provided
at the time the student is added to TRACKER. This change does NOT
affect campus coordinators in other disciplines, since the baseline questionnaire
is only applicable to medical students.
Nancy Dunn expressed an interest in developing an electronic Baseline Data Questionnaire for nursing students – a possible topic for her doctoral dissertation. Jodie to discuss this with Mike McCarthy and Hilda and get back to her.
Jodie briefly discussed the WVU & WVSOM strategies for improving medical student response rate to the Baseline Data questionnaire. Teresa Holshuh will discuss strategies that might work for MU medical school with Joanne Raines.
Data Collection via TRACKER of community service activities:
Jodie discussed the new checkbox for "Newspaper Article" on the community
service log completed electronically by site coordinator. This checkbox
will enable us to count such articles separate from other community service
projects. The suggestion was made to make this a broader category
such as “health information journalism” that could include publications,
pamphlets, and radio and TV spots.
New WVU OB/GYN Campus Coordinator:
Jodie announced that there is a new WVU OB/GYN campus coordinator,
Amanda Withrow, who will be scheduling the WVU OB/GYN two week rotations
that are within an RHEP service area via TRACKER. These 2 week rotations
will be classified as “IN” (instead of “RHEP” rotations) since students
do not participate in community service while at the RHEP site due to the
short length of their rotation.
Site Coordinator Evaluation of RHEP students:
The Evaluation Committee discussed the comments of the site coordinators
on the “Site Coordinator Evaluation of RHEP Students” drafted by Helen
Baker. It was recognized that the School Committee needs to address
some major issues raised by the site coordinators before this form can
be implemented. Nancy Dunn and Norm Ferrari mentioned the importance
of the form being used by all consortia or not at all, especially if this
evaluation is used in determining the student’s grade. These comments
will be discussed by the School Committee in March, 2002, unless there
is a conference call before then. After that meeting, the School
Committee may opt to send this evaluation form back to the Evaluation Committee
to make changes as suggested.
