Report: Community-Campus Partnerships for Health by Hilda Heady: During the last Advisory Panel Meeting two of our community members reported on the 1st Annual CCPH Conference which they attended in San Francisco. Those who attended the conference felt that our WV program was so well received by the audience that we should have a regional conference on Appalachian community partnerships programs. When this idea was brought before the representatives for CCPH they suggested that since the conference was to be held in Pittsburgh, PA that there be an Appalachian track. This conference will be held April 25- 28, 1998 in Pittsburgh, PA. We are in need of volunteers for the planning committee. If you are interested in being involved with the planning committee please contact Hilda. Report: Site Coordinator Retreat by April Vestal: The Site Coordinators Semi-Annual Retreat was held June 23-24 at Pipestem Resort State Park. Instead of inviting outside presenters they used the expertise within the site coordinator group for their sessions this year. They had sessions on such things as Community Outreach and Empathy. They also had a group discussion on their personal views on Appalachian life. This session was used for the site coordinators to describe what they think of Appalachia and why the choose to stay in West Virginia. Please note that the Site Coordinator Representative on the Advisory Panel is a position that is chosen annually. The new Site Coordinator Representative is April Vestal, Rural Mountain Consortium - Rainelle. Report: National Rural Health Association Conference by Mark Allen: Mark Allen reported that his impression, when comparing what we are doing in WV to other states, we are further with our technology than we think. A lot of the things that were shared at the conference we have already been using. Various people at the conference want to learn more about our TRACKER system. Report: WV Rural Health Conference by Jane Martin: The Inaugural for the Judy Kandzari Memorial will be held on the evening of October 28. The conference is being held October 29-30 at Lakeview Resort and Conference Center in Morgantown, WV. The WVRHEP Faculty Development Day will also be held at Lakeview on October 31, 1997. Things are going as planned and we are on schedule. Report: Evaluation Committee by Cecil Pollard: Cecil distributed preliminary reports on Student Site Evaluations. Currently they have 20%-25% of the student responses. They hope to have a final report soon. Report: Research and Community Service Committee by Dick Meckstroth: The name of this committee has been changed to the Community Outreach Committee. This committee is trying to revamp and become more community oriented. The new co-chairs of this committee are Dick Meckstroth and Judi McKinney. Report: School and Finance Committees, Executive DirectorÕs by Hilda Heady: The school committee has been discussing the issue of distribution of students to local sites. Each school has developed a policy to determine which students will rotate at these local sites. The medical school sub-committee of the school committee developed a primary care definition. This definition states that the following will be considered primary care: family medicine, internal medicine, general pediatrics and OB/GYN. However, there needs to be some flexibility within the definition for emergency medicine, general surgery and psychiatry as approved. The committee has also developed a generic letter for school schedulers that will have to be sent out before students begin rotating. Each school can revise the letter as needed as long as it has the required information listed. The problem list was revised during the meeting today. The Finance Committee met today and reviewed all requests. However, they could not vote because they didnÕt have a quorum. Among these requests there was one from the central office asking for funding for updating various promotional materials. The committee has also reviewed all budgets. Hilda will be doing various site visits in the future. She will also be attending some local board meetings. Please let her know if you would like to schedule a site visit or board meeting with her. Katie Worley gave a performance management update for Cabwaylingo Health Education Consortium.
