KELLOGG GRANT AND RHI CURRICULUM COMMITTEE MINUTES OCTOBER 18, 1994 The meeting was held at the Grant Memorial Hospital Learning Resources Center. PRESENT: Natalie Ames (WVU Interdisciplinary Curriculum Coordinator), Becky Harman (Nursing Field Professor), Judith Kandzari (WVU School of Nursing), Annie McIntosh (Joint Governing Committee), Heather McCutcheon (RHI Site Coordinator), John Mooney (WV School of Osteopathic Medicine), Sharon Pressman (RHI Site Coordinator), Barbara Rice (Kellogg Site Coordinator - Cameron), Linda Savory (MU School of Medicine), and Lynne Welch (MU School of Nursing). Also present, Leonard Kassis (MUSOM Year 3 student). ABSENT: Helen Baker (WV School of Osteopathic Medicine), William Carlton (WVU School of Medicine, Project Director), Anne Cutlip (WVU School of Medicine), David Elliott (WVU School of Pharmacy), Robert Foster (WV School of Osteopathic Medicine), Jan Fox (MU School of Medicine), Arnold Hassen (WV School of Osteopathic Medicine), Dianne Hughes (Kellogg Site Coordinator - Camden on Gauley), Richard Meckstroth (WVU School of Dentistry), Trish Petitte (WVU Health Services Research), Clarke Ridgway (WVU School of Pharmacy), Diana Stotts (MU School of Nursing), April Vestal (Kellogg Site Coordinator - Rainelle), and Tom Whittier (Joint Governing Committee). I. TEAM Development We need active support of the TEAM from: - Students - Site Coordinators - Faculty (Site and Campus) - Community The TEAM impetus will be: - The community assignment - expanded view - Longer rotations (2-3 months) KGCC 10/18/94 Minutes Page Two - Site coordinators more empowered/trusted to implement community assignment - Site coordinators in tune with student needs - Field professors are to support community and provide a consistent message - Site coordinator excitement - no bureaucratic model - Essential elements ("know how") - site coordinators now have experience II. Programmatic Evaluations The components of programmatic evaluations of curriculum should be: 1. Student feedback - Have pre-expectations been met? - Have final project expectations been met? - Identify memorable event 2. Need from field professors: - Pre-expectations - have they been met? - Post-expectations - have they been met? - Can a memorable event be identified? 3. Need from Curriculum Committee: - Computer/library usage quantifications III. Miscellaneous It was discussed that the existing multidisciplinary cases could be rewritten for use in the future. A group will identify cases, that can be rewritten, by January. The cases are on the Gopher system under the specialist category. This group will be Jean Gross, Lynne Welch, Linda Savory, and Ridgway. Comments can be made to the cases by E-mail. KGCC 10/18/94 Minutes Page Three IV. Future Meetings The RHI Site Coordinators will organize a schedule for future meetings and bring to the November 15 Curriculum Committee meeting.
