KELLOGG CLUSTER GROUP MEETING MARCH 26, 1993 MINUTES Present were: Mitchell Berk, Tim Canterbury, Steve Cody, Steve Fish, Susan Jackman, Bryan Larsen, David Leppla, Maurice Mufson, and Linda Savory. Directors of courses considered to be wholly involved in Kellogg change are to work in clusters to achieve a working syllabus prior to the end of this semester (Year I: Epi\Biostat, Physical Diagnosis, Intro to Medicine, Neuroscience, Organ Systems/Microphysiology, Human Sexuality, Behavioral Medicine; Year II: Physical Diagnosis, Community Medicine, Intro to Clinical Medicine, Psychopathology, and Genetics). They are responsible for their meeting schedules. They will submit a written proposal to the Council of Course Directors for approval on May 28. The basic science courses are to account for 10-15% of class time spent in Kellogg content such as case-based problem solving. They are to submit a written proposal to the Council of Course Directors for approval on May 28. This proposal also should describe a test format supporting problem-solving. The group accepted a proposal to construct a notebook of 4-8 cases. Course directors would explore portions of the cases relevant to their course with assistance of appropriate clinicians. Discussion ensued regarding whether the courses would change from year to year, whether the students should work in groups, who would grade and how would we grade the notebooks. Course directors are to respond in writing before the next Council of Course Directors meeting. Dr. Savory will propose the general cases at the next CCD meeting on May 28. Linda M. Savory, M.D. KELLOGG CLUSTER GROUP MEETING APRIL 16, 1993 MINUTES Present were: Mitchell Berk, Steven Cody, Susan Jackman, David Leppla, Maurice Mufson, and John Szarek. Several handouts were distributed at the meeting, and those not attending will receive them in the mail. Topics discussed at this meeting were: - Selecting four cases from the ten cases given. Six to eight of the most frequently selected cases will be included in the case booklet. - Discussion of how courses are truly multidisciplinary, i.e., opportunities to tie in course material, particularly case-related material, across course boundaries. - A consistent approach needs to be implemented for each semester - whether problem-based or problem-solving format will be used. All course directors are to write to Dr. Savory on the above topics by April 23. This will allow time to prepare a composite report for the April 29 Council of Course Directors' meeting. Linda M. Savory, M.D. 4/19/93
