Patty Crawford introduced
Randy Curl, MD, a 3rd year family practice resident and WVU
graduate. Dr. Curl gave a presentation on the AHEC Team project which was
completed in Richwood WV. The project focus was Tobacco Use.
Dennis McCutcheon
presented a letter to the board from
Lew Holloway, Executive Director of NWVRHEC which requested that they be
permitted to include Monongalia County as part of the RHEP consortium (NWVRHEC
Region 3) due to the rural nature of Monongalia county outside of the immediate
Morgantown area. There was discussion of the Levels Policy and how this would
affect student requests for placements in this area. Motion to approve rural
areas of Monongalia County as RHEP (Sr. B. Kupchak/R. Meckstroth). A vote was
called for: one nay vote (S. Hanna). Motion passed. The level issue will be
determined according to the policy that is in place.
Penny Asbury reported that
at the July 19 board meeting, Southwestern AHEC had no objection to
transferring Boone County into their area as long as the Central AHEC had no
objections. The purpose of this move is to keep all counties that are in the
Southern Counties Consortium together in one AHEC instead of divided into two
AHEC areas as they are now. Penny then discussed the issue with Chuck Conner
and the Central AHEC. They also agreed with no objections. Penny requested that
the Advisory Panel approve this request to move Boone County to the
Southwestern AHEC. Motion to approve the request (C. See/N. Ferrari). Motion
passed.
Hilda reported that Imogene
Foster will be off for approximately 2 months due to health issues. She also
reported on the continuing relief activities for victims of Hurricane Katrina
within the AHEC/RHEP organizations. Hilda requested that the board devote the
majority of the November 14, 2005 meeting day to strategic planning. Motion (B.
Deggs/R. Meckstroth). Motion passed. The June 2006 meeting dates have been
changed to June 5 and 6, 2006 due to a conflict with the National AHEC meeting.
Hilda gave a brief update on the NRHA. Her term as President of the NRHA will
continue until December 31, 2005. She has visited 37 states to date. Her last
presentation will take place in Washington, DC on November 15, 2005. Bill
Sexton has been appointed as the NRHA President effective January 1, 2006.
Effective September 1, 2005 Allen Morgan has accepted the position of Executive
Director of the NRHA. Hilda also reported that as of this year the NRHA has
retired their debt.
The training has been
scheduled to follow the Advisory Panel meeting.
No other business was
reported.

Ferrari/G. Mitchell). Meeting adjourned
