Primary Sites

The Cabin Creek Health center is currently staffed under the direction of the three medical schools. The center provides services in Pediatrics, General Family Practice and Geriatrics. There is minimal laboratory services. Most lab work is sent out. The pharmacy at the center is operated by Amy Wayne Brabbin. Cabin Creek Community Health Pharmacy is the site of a pilot program sponsored jointly by Pfizer Drug and Johnson & Johnson. This program provides free prescriptions for person who meet the federal poverty guidelines and have no prescription insurance. This program has been so successful that other programs across the state have developed under the name "Sharing the Care".

The Learning Resouce Center is fully operational and has direct Internet service.

Riverside Health Center
Riverside Health Center is a satellite site of Cabin Creek Health Center. The Riverside clinic is both a school-based health center and a community health center, located at the high school but with a separate entrance for community members. This clinic is one of the few in the country providing a combination of both school and community care.

Upper Kanawha Valley Medical Center

The Upper Kanawha Valley Medical Center is a private non-profit health clinic, located about twenty-five minutes south of Charleston in the town of Cedar Grove. Started with the help of the United Mine Workers (UMW), the health center has a Black Lung clinic and offers significant occupational health services. Rotating students also gain experience in radiology work with the clinic's x-ray. The clinic has a public-sponsored cancer control program. Services are offered on a sliding fee program.

West Virginia Health Right, Inc.

WV Health Right, the state's largest and oldest free clinic, is located in Charleston. The clinic provides uninsured, low-income patients with free, high-quality care donated by over 400 volunteers. Health Right is a comprehensive primary care clinic treating not only primary illness, but also the whole person. The clinic advocates disease prevention, behavior modification, and lifestyle skills to the patients, particularly in areas of smoking cessation, diabetes education, weight loss and nutrition.
